Before & After Case Studies – Leather Furniture Repair
Our experienced family team specializes in the repair and restoration of leather and vinyl furniture, such as sectional sofas, complete living room sets, and multiple pieces at once. Working together on-site, we can complete complex repairs in a single day, a task that would take a single technician much longer. We repair scuffs, scratches, cuts, deep cracks, holes, and damaged seams, and then color-match the repair to ensure a seamless finish.
This page showcases not all of our work, but only the most complex and large-scale projects that the Prime Leather Fix family team has completed in a single visit. Here you can see real results of repairs to open seams, cuts, deep cracks, holes, and severe wear on leather sofas, sectionals, and armchairs in Naperville, the Chicago suburbs, and Wisconsin – without the need to remove the furniture from your home.

An executive office chair in Naperville showed heavy wear on the armrests and cracks in the leather, worsened by accumulated body oils. The service included deep cleaning and body‑oil removal, patch‑style repair of a hole, crack restoration, texture blending and precise color matching so the repair zones visually merged with the rest of the chair.

Project 2 – cushion seam repair, Naperville
A leather cushion from Naperville arrived with a split seam that could not be secured neatly on site. The repair was done in the workshop on an industrial sewing machine: the weak area was stabilized, the seam was restitched along the original holes and the surface was finished so the repair line blended in with the existing upholstery.

Project 3 – recliner sofa, Sheridan
In Sheridan the leather recliner sofa had opened seams in two places and all components were non‑removable, which required careful hand sewing directly on the mechanism. The seams were manually restitched along the original line, the thread was matched for strength and color, and the surface was lightly detailed so the recliner regained a clean, finished look.

Project 4 – sofa and sectional, Willowbrook
The restoration in Willowbrook involved two pieces: a leather sofa and a sectional.
-
Sofa: The team repaired a deep cut on one cushion, restored support in sagging seat areas, corrected creases, and blended color to conceal scratches and scuffs.
-
Sectional: The sectional had multiple worn sections and loss of cushion support. The specialists rebuilt the seat structure, reconditioned the leather surface, and evened the color tone with local touch‑ups.
Both pieces were completed during a single day of on‑site work, followed by a protective coating to preserve the finish and improve resistance to wear.

Project 5 – Leather set, Plainfield
The leather set in Plainfield included an ottoman, chair, loveseat and sofa with sagging cushions, worn leather and split seams, including joints between seat cushions. Because all elements were non‑removable, the team restored cushion volume and seam integrity directly on the frame, repaired scratches and scuffs, reinforced weak areas with a hidden patch and then unified the color so the entire set looked even and refreshed.

Project 6 – mixed leather set, Wisconsin
In Wisconsin the set included an aniline leather chair with a sunken seat and faded finish, along with a regular leather loveseat and sofa that had collapsed cushions, scratches turning into holes, and scuffed areas. The chair received shape correction and full aniline color renewal. On the loveseat, surface cracks and cat scratches were repaired before color restoration. The sofa had an open seam that was restitched prior to cushion support correction, followed by hole and scratch repair and overall recoloring to unify the tone of the entire set. All repairs were carried out on non‑removable cushions with a protective topcoat applied to prevent new fading and wear.

Project 7 – sectional Sofa, Naperville
The sofa had a deep cut and a crack that extended into a through-hole on one of the seats, sagging non-removable cushions, scuffs, and surface cracks in several areas. The team of specialists corrected the shape of the backrests and seats, repaired the two through-holes, restored the folds and cracks, and then performed a complete repainting with the application of a protective coating on-site in one working day.

Project 8 - Aniline Sofa, Oswego, IL
An aniline leather sofa came in with a broken spring and disrupted tufting, along with a sun‑faded, washed‑out surface and multiple scratches – all typical issues for aniline leather exposed to strong light. The upholstery also had a stubborn stain that could not be fully removed without risking damage to the open‑pore leather. Initially, the homeowner asked us to repair the tufting, address the stain, and restore an even overall appearance.
During the repair, the broken spring was replaced and the tufting was brought back into alignment. Using the remaining original areas as a guide, an authentic tone was custom‑matched and the entire sofa was refinished in this color, giving it a refreshed look and visually softening the stained area. A few days later, the owner realized she had actually preferred the familiar pale, faded look and asked to return the sofa to a lighter shade, choosing not to wait for the natural aging process typical for aniline leather to gradually soften the color on its own.
The sofa was recolored a second time in a lighter tone. The client was advised that this additional dye application goes against the natural “behavior” of aniline leather and was performed purely to match a visual preference, so our company does not provide a warranty for this extra recoloring. As a result, we were able to hide the stronger base color and blend in the stain that previously spoiled the appearance of this high‑end piece. This project was unusual for us, because our goal as a company is to restore and preserve leather for many years, not to interrupt its natural wear cycle with repeated interventions.
